Menlo Park and Atherton are
centrally located 30 miles south of San Francisco and 20 miles north of San
Jose. Portola Valley is a rural town located to the west of Menlo Park and
Atherton. The major highways of the peninsula are U.S. 101 (Bayshore Freeway)
and I-280. El Camino Real (Highway 82) connects most of the Peninsula cities.
Elevations range from sea level to 330 feet above sea level.
The
weather is moderate to warm temperatures for the majority of the year with July,
August, and September being the warmest with an average high temperature of
94°F. Extremely high temperatures are rare and quickly dispelled by coastal
fogs. Average rainfall per year is 15.3 inches with most of the rain occurring
during the colder months of December, January, and February where the average
low is 44°F.
